a short term horror game set in or around a forest that is cursed and torments anyone who wanders into it. NPC(s) will include a guide who players can work with or against and experience ic consequences for their decisions. the ultimate goal of the game is to leave the forest, though how this can be achieved is up to player actions. it would be small, and invite only (invites are only extended to friends of the mods)
keywords from rp polls
horror, fairy tale, alternate universe, memregains, fantasy, world building
potential game mechanics
ROLES: characters are assigned a "role" in game upon acceptance into the game. each role aligns to a fairy tale (i.e. cinderella, snow white, little briar-rose, rapunzel, etc) and each role gives characters one perk (i.e. cinderella communicates to the monsters in the forest). canon powers are negotiable.
WORLD BUILDING: each character will come in with a "building" or "area" created from their memories at some point during the game; players can select this area as they decide and design it however they wish. alternatively they can create a building with multiple canon influences (i.e. homura akemi's building is a library that upon entrance seems like a place of worship with hospital influences, etc). these are "dungeons" and can be traversed to help characters confront traumas through out their lives. ALTERNATIVELY: these dungeons only come through when characters turn into a monster based on their role, and in order to "save" a character, they must be defeated in their dungeon. this can be accomplished in a number of ways, but these would be run by the players themselves.
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE/MEMREGAINS: characters are unveiling aspects of their canon lives and remembering who they really are. upon acceptance, they believe they lived a different life. the goal is to remember their canon lives with this mechanic.
MOD RUN PUZZLES: i'm willing to run puzzle solving sessions in which characters must icly solve puzzles, or potentially die if they fail to solve them in a set amount of time. i have experience with modding murdergame trials and threads in this vein, so i'm pretty willing to do this if players are interested in it.
potential horror elements
PSYCHOLOGICAL: characters' perceptions of themselves are challenged constantly, the setting is unpredictable and changes on a whim, potentially acting as a character in it's own right. potential personalized psychological effects, if players are interested in it (i.e. your character can no longer see their reflection, your character feels as if they are ill despite no physical ailments, your character begins to feel as if their blood is hardening beneath their skin)
BODY: if characters can turn into monsters based on their role, their transformation is completely up to the player. how this transformation is played and what it looks like is up to the player, as long as it ties into their character's role.
OTHER GENRES OF HORROR: religious, scifi, fantasy, urban horror are on the table, though i'm not sure how i could implement them, so any thoughts if you'd like to see them are encouraged.
scheduling
-- MURDERGAME STYLE: weekdays (monday through friday) are dedicated to exploration and plotting. weekends are dedicated to things like puzzles, dungeons, deaths, etc.
- pros: dedicated schedule means that everyone gets together at the same time to get things done so plot is constantly moving.
- cons: dedicated schedule means that if you miss out, you miss out.
-- AS IT COMES STYLE: nothing is set in stone and proceeds organically.
- pros: players have more time to build up character arcs, allows for wiggle room with scheduling.
- cons: unpredictable endgame, potentially could lead to weeks where nothing happens.
ooc contact
--PLURK PRIMARILY: all players are encouraged to keep game discussion to weekly mod plurks (things like discussing puzzles, solving them together, discussing threads to get things done, linking toplevels, etc). announcements will happen in plurk.
- pros: a space for everyone to talk and meet easily, as a plurk is open to everyone.
- cons: i don't think everyone has plurk?
-- TWITTER PRIMARILY: a mod account will announce when things happen, players link their top levels and discussions on their own twitter accounts probably.
- pros: mod account tracking is easier on twitter, i don't think we all need to make new accounts on a new platform
- cons: ooc contact is trickier and requires everyone add each other, no dedicated area
-- DISCORD PRIMARILY: a server is created by mods where announcements will be placed, players can chat whenever they want, same as above??
- pros: everything is in one space, players can link everything, announcements can go in a dedicated room on the server, etc
- cons: it's discord.
-- COMBINATION
- any combination of the above, potentially twitter and discord?? i dont know. give me your thoughts.
other things
- character age limit? no one under a certain age? i don't know. if you have something you're concerned about or a mechanic you want to see, then tell me and we'll talk about it

-i really really like the idea of roles
-same for making places or dungeons...getting to go wild building stuff makes me happy
-for contact i think maybe a mix of things? like the thing i like about discord is that i can easily access it via my phone and we can ping people but i also get that not everyone has plurk and such so twitter would be appealing....i'd make a new twitter for this as i'm p sure no one wants to read my constant shitposting on main
-for schedule i kind of like as it comes more just bc with murdergame style i remember feeling heavily stressed if i wasn't around on the weekends like i was going to miss absolutely everything and letting that just flow feels easier
-overall this is NEAT

world building: me and dahlia had an rp that was actually based on people having little personal alcoves that were nestled in a world in dreams and i'm a big fan of having player controlled and designed spaces, but idk if we'd wanna make them too heavily tied to a plot? the monster thing feels very "boss battle" and favours characters that can fight.
but i like the idea of people having personal spaces that are dictated by their mental state and slowly regained memories; perhaps using this as a means for people double crossing each other or invading boundries. like if you think something fucky is afoot with monika you go into her personal space and Snoop
other genres of horror: i think the best way to implement a kinda fantasy and/or religious style horror in this setting, would be leaning hard into that unknowable and "alien" feeling morality of older pagan gods tied to the forest. i think the idea of even the forest itself being an entity that wants to consume it's captors and this ever present dehumanizing idea of just being cattle for it would be fun to explore. i'm like hardcore into slavic shit right now and the idea of an oppressive and cold siberian forest that wants to eat it's survivors is #sexy
scheduling: i like the idea of having a set schedule but maybe something with a longer timeframe than weekly. maybe instead of being a weekly thing it could be like biweekly?
ooc contact: i agree with mira and twitter and discord sounds best
other things: age limits don't seem necessary because i trust everyone to be tasteful and not turn into the insane clown pussy
other other things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWg9ClWjuBs this should be implemented

i'm not sure how much of a mechanic you wanted the transformations themselves to be, but i imagine some characters would find the prospect of transforming horrifying, while others might seek it out because who doesn't want to go crazy and stupid sometimes. i'm also not sure if you had something in mind irt what provokes a transformation, but i think it would be interesting if the characters took it as a random occurrence. because then you just don't know who's next!! who is beast and who is not, and all of that.
i also like emery's idea of the forest being its own entity that wants to eat you.
also agree with set biweekly schedule!
twitter and discord combo sounds appealing too!
